Sounds like you have it down and we'll just have to do more to climb the list!

Re: Investment Real Estate Twitter Rankings

Brent- Thanks for commenting. First, let me say that the ranking is no doubt biased by my criteria as is any ranking. The correct formula for determining influence is completely debatable and I encourage anyone to come up with an alternate list (remember that I only did this because I was trying to find people relevant to what I do, so I would love for someone to create another list that has suggestions).

The relevance factor was determined by using several iterations recording data of a "seed set" of users to flush out more users by observing who the seed set was following (the eventual data set was 44,000 observations) I then took the most followed among this resulting group (call them the VIPs for lack of a better term) and observed who they were following. So the relevance rank is based on how many of the VIPs are following you.

Again, I created the criteria based on what makes sense to me and I am more than willing to admit that it could be improved.

But thanks for reading. Great work on making the list in the first place. Your social media strategy is working!

Re: Investment Real Estate Twitter Rankings

By the way, I just looked a the raw data and very impressed by the time John took to organize! Just out of curiosity, did you include any operators in your analysis? Our followers are a mix of investors and property management folks - maybe that's why our "relevance" was relatively low? (We have very few "fluff" followers - i.e., we have not used the account to follow any non-multifamily people to get follow-backs) In our niche specifically, our followers tend to be extremely targeted, so I was surprised by the relevancy figure...

Thanks again, John!

Re: Investment Real Estate Twitter Rankings

Josh- Thanks for taking a look and commenting. It's helped me connect with some people I didn't otherwise know were on twitter.

I think I tend to disagree with Joe Stampone; I use twitter as the RSS feed on my news site (as I think many media companies will ... or should) and therefore only use it as a "social media" when it involves DM or RT. My two cents anyway - I love this ranking system as is!

Anyway, I really appreciated being on here and will reference this in my daily e-dition tomorrow. Thanks John!

Re: Investment Real Estate Twitter Rankings

John, thanks for the list and including Multifamily Insiders (@mfinsiders)! You've taken a great initiative. What would be nice to see included in a future ranking is a measure of conversation. This can be done by a count of @replies and who those @replies come from. The purpose of social media is to be social and excluding such a measurement distorts the credibility of the rankings. Thanks again, this is an awesome list.

@joestampone1

Re: Investment Real Estate Twitter Rankings

Thank you for the link list.
